Being from the South....

For the longest time, I felt that being from the South was a hinderance--a barrier of sort that kept me at bay from the rest of the educated world.   I mean lets face it!!!! When you tell folks you are from the South and then they discover you are from Kentucky--the jokes begin to fly.  "barefoot and pregnant"  "can't read nor 'rite"....and underneath all of those cutesie jokes---those of us from the South are pushed under the thumb of those brought up in the respectful places of the world--like Chicago, California or Boston.  While our voices may sound a bit slower and perhaps more drawn out and nasally---truth is--we Southern Bred Girls are quite smart....others just might not believe it.

When you add in the fact that not only am I a Southern Girl---one from Kentucky who doesn't really care for Ky Fried Chicken--never have liked my meat on a bone but that I am an educated woman who is also who also works part time as a pulpit supply minister.  Well let's just say it makes for some rather unique story gathering and all that woven together makes me who I am.

We crossed over to the southern side several years ago and we got a lot of jokes about it. We're in Kentucky too and heard all the jokes about throw our shoes away, we won't need them in Kentucky. I have to say, we never want to go back. Love it!
